'Tis The Season...

Did you think we were going to talk about Christmas? Nope 'Tis the Season for taxes. Scott LOVES this time of year. He will spend hours on the quick tax software running various scenarios...

And today he got another piece of the puzzle - Katie's T4. Very funny!

We thought we would do a little poll - so tell us if you still use the paper/pen version, have someone else do your taxes or if you have embraced technology and use tax software. You can guess from the photo what we do...

Happy Savings!

January -- Zoom Zoomed!

Hi Everyone -- where has January gone? It's been busy and we haven't been good with blogging - but here's a quick update...

The garage is 99% done - just need the gutters and down spouts and those are expected to go on next Tuesday.

We've been snowboarding every Monday night & volunteering @ COP. The hill got very icy, so the quality dropped in the past few weeks - but it was fun to just get out.
Katie swims with her dad on Tuesday and Thursdays nights. The bikes and trainers have been out of storage for a couple of weeks too. We've just been spinning a couple nights a week, but the intervals and focused rides start next Monday. Funny how quickly your ass forgets what a bike saddle feels like!
Work has been very busy for Scott. Things have slowed for Katie, but it's given her time to apply for her P.Eng - so that process is almost complete.
Overall, a busy and exciting time for sure! Hope everyone is doing well - catch-up soon.

Finishing Touches...

It was a busy afternoon as the crew put together the garage. As you can see, it's ready for the finishing touches - shingles, siding, electrical, etc.

We're happy with the size - going to be lots of room for us to work on our bikes in the summer!

And here I got Scott just putting the last nail in for the day.

Build It & They Will Come...

Just thought we'd show you this morning's progress on our garage. We will soon have 26'x22' of dry, snow & frost -free parking when you visit. Ok, not really for you to use when you visit, but you can park out front and we'll tell and show you the dry, snow and frost-free parking spaces!

More photos later.

Welcome 2009!

Hope everyone had a great start to your New Year. We just got back from our little getaway in Emerald Lake -- here's a quick recap.

We helped decorate the Emerald Lake Snow-person.

Emerald did not disappoint -- it was very warm compared to what we have been getting in Alberta. We got there Tuesday afternoon and just relaxed. Katie had one of her top 5 meals that night @ the resort. She'll have to blog about that herself, but as usual the food was excellent. Wednesday we snowshoed around the lake after breakfast, read our books by the fire and got ready for New Year's Eve. They bring in a band and have lots of entertainment, but we think people watching is the best source of entertainment and there was of shortage of that! We talked lots about everything that happened in 2008 -- hard to believe all the events that can take place in a year!

View of Emerald Lake - just outside our cabin.

January 1st we got up early for breakfast and then hit the slopes @ Lake Louise for a day of boarding. We used our first free day of our Passes (thanks, Adam & Roxcie!) and there was no lines, so we made the most of hill. Not as much powder as we had hoped for - considering the dumps we have gotten in Calgary, but the day was excellent!

We took turns setting up for action shots - they work pretty good!

We then had some food @ the Post Hotel in Lake Louise -- I've been talking about their nachos for years (seriously) and today got to experience them for herself...they did not disappoint. I'm not sure if they make the top 5 food list - but definitely the top 5 snacks and she did say, "these are the best nachos ever!" All good.

We are now home - the roads were in excellent condition, but the snow has started again. We are probably going to rest the legs tomorrow and maybe volunteer @ COP on Saturday or Sunday.
It was a perfect way to say good-bye to 2008 and welcome 2009.
We wish you a happy & healthy new year!
