"Broken"

Scott went biking on Sunday and Monday of this week, so the title of "Broken" could have many meanings given his history with pushing his biking limits.

He and Tilly went to Kicking Horse Resort for 2 days of downhill biking. He had a great time and came back with tons of stories. Day 1 they did 6 runs (which is lots of riding considering top to bottom is about 50 minutes, including the 14 minute gondola ride.) Anyway, on the last run of the day, Scott does this little 1 footer jump and lands fine, but notices his bike didn't feel right. Sure enough - broken. He broke his frame! Crazy placement too - but he took it in this week to the bike shop and it has a life-time warranty on the frame, so he gets a new one - yeah.

Day two of riding meant he had to rent a bike. So he got a wicked Specialized Big Hit with 8" of travel on both front and rear suspension (compared to his bike that had 4" on both.) New bike, more confidence, more speed resulted in a crash that sent him flying. His entire left side of his body (from his shoulders down to his ankle) is road rash. Photos don't do it justice - plus his mother reads this blog, so we shouldn't post the painful pictures! Thankfully he bought a full face helmet before the bike trip.

He is, however, thankfully healing well and scabs are already forming -- But the bruised ego make take a little longer ; )

Other news...

Katie is doing well and tomorrow will be 34 weeks! Baby and mom are both healthy - although Katie is becoming more and more uncomfortable. And with 30+ weather this weekend, the priority will be to stay cool. We now have every Friday off together - and that's been lots of fun playing during the 3-day weekends.

We don't have much planned for this weekend - mostly relaxing with some school and chores mixed in for good measure. Thanks for staying up-to-date.

Prenatal Class

So we are going to a prenatal class on Wednesday nights. This was week 2 of 6. The redneck factor was much-lower tonight (crazy week 1 story!) However, the WTF!? factor was pretty high tonight.

It's not that the videos are freakin us out about what is to come, it's just that we don't think it's natural to watch other people's birthing experience on video. And if the one lady tonight who was crying during most of the graphic video happens to be reading this blog, all we have to say is - "Seriously?! By now you should have figured out how the baby is coming out of you!?!"

Anyway - there's snacks and I get to massage my wife lots, so those are worth going for!

Count Down . . .

Friday marked the 8 week countdown! Time is now flying more quickly than we could have imagined. We started our pre-natal course last Wednesday. There are ten couples. One of them expecting a few days before us and everyone else a few weeks after us (4 of the couples due on the same day - October 14 - weird, eh?) Friday also marked the last full week of work for Katie. She will now use up some of her holiday time and only work Mon-Thur until the baby arrives. She's very excited about a 4 day work-week....something some of us just take for granted for many years!

Katie is doing well - tired phase, but cute as ever ; ) The house and baby room are coming together - getting some of the odds and ends so that we feel more prepared. The baby name list is down to the short-list too - final decisions when he or she is actually born. Although Katie has started to have baby specific dreams and they have all been boys...

Scott is back to school next week too. He took a few weeks off to have a bit of a summer holiday, but break is now done, so he can try and get a couple of classes in before Christmas break - we can only imagine how quickly that will come too!

Boyz Trip - Water Fun

Last weekend Scott went on a Boys Trip -- you may remember such adventures as Biking, Beers & Bears (Dec '06) or Boys Bike Trip (Aug '07). This year they spent a few nights in the Shuswap and had tons of Jet Ski action and then spent a day @ the Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, BC where they tried White Water Rafting. Their entire trip was during the crazy hot BC weather and the boys spent most of the time in the water staying cool.

Here's some photos of the white water action...

This woman was less than impressed that I took her photo, rather than help her back in the boat! She had a lovely British accent - even when she was yelling at her hubby to get her back in the boat!

And this is Schwartzee preparing for the rapids ahead! And me taking more photos.
