Fun With Food

Even though Megan is a pretty good sport about trying new foods and eating a good variety of things, I thought we'd have a little fun with lunch.  Here's her house sandwich, raspberry trees, and apple garden!

She LOVED it...and even asked for a second "house"!  Looks like lunch might consist of an entire city block from now on!  Her reaction inspired me to look for some mini cookie cutters to get a little more creative...lucky for me a very flamboyant young man was working at Williams & Sonoma the other day when we were there and recommended I visit Bulk Barn, since "Bulk Barn has the most magnificant selection of cookie cutters".  He was right!  I managed to pick up a few fun cookie cutters and tried them out with Megan's breakfast this morning.

I'm pretty sure the dancer will be Megan's favourite!

Should I be concerned that the best part of breakfast for Megan was biting the heads off of chicks, turtles and puppies?

Recycling Rewards

Mondays are daddy-daughter days. We go to gymnastics in the morning and we try and do a "chore" in the afternoon.  Today was a life lesson in how rewarding recycling can be!  We started by moving our cans, milk cartons and bottles into the garbage bags.

A short drive and we were at our bottle depot!

Because of the risk of pirates taking our bottle bounty, Megan brought her guard dog!
What can I say, a good idea is a good idea!

Megan was eager to help put the cartons on the counter for counting.

As we waited, we got a chance to look around the factory and Megan liked this machine that took the bottles up the conveyor belt and sorted them on the other end!

We got our bottle count and Megan was eager to cash it in quickly...well not so quickly that she didn't notice we were on CCTV and who can resist watching yourself on TV...LOL!

Our bottle depot also gives suckers to kids, so that was one reward! The other was $$$ and Megan was quick to ask to put it in her pocket!

And now the connection to "saving" - some of the money bought us a treat on the way home (loaf bread from Starbucks...yummy!) and the rest made its way to the piggy-bank!

A penny saved is a penny earned...or some other saying like that!!

Science Friday

Today Megan and Mommy had some friends over for Science Friday!  We decided to make volcanoes out of bottles and paper and then make them erupt using baking soda and vinegar.  The kids had a blast colouring their volcanoes so you can only imagine how excited they were when they started to erupt!!!
Kaylee and Mom (Jen) showing us how to get the eruption going...

"Hey Mom, it's all gone?"  Needless to say, we did the eruption a few times!!!

Isn't Lincoln a cutie!

After volcanoes we did a fun little milk art experiment.  If you add a small amount of milk to the bottom of a baking dish (enough so it covers the entire bottom), add food colouring, and then add just a drop of dish detergent you get the most amazing milk art!  The fat in the milk is repelled by the detergent and it makes really cool colour mixes in the milk.  It keeps on going for quite a long time and only gets more colourful the longer you let it go!

Megan just wanted to say a quick "thanks!" to Grandma and Grandpa for paying for Mommy's engineering degree...we are putting it to good use!!!
