What We Like About Art . . .

We bought some art at Christmas for our house, instead of buying gifts for each other, and it arrived last Friday. So this weekend we toured our house (short tour) to find where we'd like to put it. Neither of us know that much about art, but we are learning more from Katie's mom (thanks!) and just by looking at different artists in the past months, we've started to develop some likes/dislikes of our own.

And that's probably the most important aspect of buying art - finding something that you like. Regardless of the reason, if it makes you happy and you like how it looks, how can something be wrong?! This is a Brodinsky painting. It is one of 55 originals he painted on a wooden medium.

So we thought we'd share what we like about this painting:

Katie: Likes the use of colors and, because we enjoy travelling so much - she looks forward to someday trying to find the place in the picture. Also likes that there are no people in the picture!

Scott: Likes that the artist uses materials (sand, clay, crushed rock) in his paintings from the area where he is painting and how that material makes a unique texture in the painting. Also likes that there are no people in the picture - something about eyes looking at you as you walk by the picture!

That's it. It's that simple. We hope it's inspired you to look at art differently!

I like the colours - reminds me a bit of Norway but most of the water scenes from there involve fishing boats! You need to check out the ART on my blog :)

Hi Lou - Jackson's drawings are wicked. Considering how much kids must cost to raise - those drawings are far more $$ than what we paid for ours...get them framed fast! hahaha!

Yep! Actually Ethan just did a painting at school that I'm going to frame when he moves to his new room - the colours match perfectly!

Beautiful - but you know... there COULD be some people on those boats, and in the buildings peeking out... But seriously, I love your new artwork. We just bought a great big soaring eagle painting for our living room.

Also - your comments on Nelia's blog cracked me right up. Remember the sleeping bag episode? Read her comments section again if you've forgotten.

That whole post from her makes me want to go back to NBPC, but somehow I just know it will never be quite the same and as fun as when we were all there.... maybe it could be. Sigh - memories! Remember when we hid in the loft above the barn bathrooms? Was that you me and John? Oh, we would be sooo out of there if we got caught now!

Maybe Scott & Katie & Mustaffa could join us at family camp one year!!! I have a tent trailer, Sarah can borrow the in-laws 5th wheel & Scott - I'll lend you a tent :) haha!

Hi Sarah! Yup, great camp memories for sure! Crazy to think about the stuff we got away with back then . . .and to think about how they still let me do my chosen profession : )

Too funny, Lou! Katie has camping stuff (a tent and more) so it's all good!! You make me laugh.

The one thing that kinda makes me chuckle is that our spouses would think we were LOONEY if they knew all the craziness at NBC!!! Yep - I think there's a few things that we'd get kicked out for now...and we weren't even bad as per se! It's was those Dunphy's - they were the bad ones! haha! I am sooo going back someday - even if I'm an old kook at family camp - we'll have a summer of '88-'93 ish camp reunion!

never mind the kook... they're always looking for a cook!

There would be NO camp if I was the COOK! Sorry :)
