Going Blue...Umm Green!

Calgary is starting a blue cart program and we're pretty excited about it. We've been recycling for a couple of years, but this home-service is expanding what we can recycle. Up until now, we've just been doing paper, cardboard and plastic bags. With the ease of this program we can do all different kinds. Plus no need for us to sort -- we just dump it into on big blue box and what is likely a child labour camp at the City of Calgary will take care of the rest.
Scott took some warming up to the recycling idea a few years ago (after all he did work for MacMillian Bloedel for several years) but he is now embracing the the recycling program in all of its glory! We're sure the Nanaimo Boyds will be thrilled at the new developments too - as it has long been a point of discussion : ) Oh, part of the program is that you can also recycle bottles and cans too...and the City keeps the cash. Ya, right. If you're reading this Mr. Mayor, we'll be keeping those bottles - but thanks for trying. Happy Recycling!

Congraulations and welcome "Recycling Newbies"! Now for the next step ... where are you planning to build your compost? Go Green!

We love it in Abbotsford that we can just put all recyclables into the same blue bag... and there is not a limit on how much you can recycle each week. We are allowed 2 garbage cans, but with all the recycling (and no more diapers!!!) we usually only have one can of garbage and one blue bag. Happy recycling!

As for the compost... you should maybe skip that one unless you have more than a city lot - we've heard some horror stories with rats and neighbourhood composts.

I still have to take my stuff to all the big bins down the road, unless I want to pay a hefty fee for curbside pick-up of a couple little boxes worth... this would be a good thing!!! This is what our garbage cans look like! (black)

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hopefully mommy isn't feeling too 'green' :)
